Took the boys out at 6:30 am. The sky and the ground looked the same, cloudy white snow. We heard a sound -- was it a dog? We looked about, Ruby pulling at the leash which set him off on a little bout of reverse sneezing. His brother smooched him to help calm him. No other dogs around. We heard the sound again and we all looked up. Seagulls that sounded like dogs somehow. There were just two flying around each other and caw-ring, then we heard more sounds and a flock came over us. They were hard to see against the sky which had more variations than at first glance. Silver and white and gray. The same color as seagulls until they turned a bit and revealed a black outline, a beak or wing tip. Usually the boys shiver in the snow, but we were too focused on the sight of the flight.
